Master the handstand by starting against a wall for support, gradually building shoulder strength and balance. Practice hollow body holds and wall walks to develop the core strength needed, and don't rush—most people need weeks or months to achieve a freestanding handstand.

People who tried this

The first times I wanted to try a handstand without any assistance I was confronted with my fear of falling. Although I knew how to fall and I had several times fallen without any problem [...] No matter how hard I try, a "blockage" in my brain prevents me from doing so. Imagine that I was amazed to see people learning the handstand by trying directly free trials and falling forwards or walking on their hands, it was unthinkable for me!

When I started working on handstand over a year ago, I already had a relatively solid “shape” thanks to several years of gym that I stopped to dedicate myself 100% to bodyweight. [...] However, it was a lack of strength that was a problem for me at the start of my progress. Add to this that I had never tried to stand on my hands, I was terrified of kicking it against a wall and you have one of the people who had the most trouble holding a damn handstand on this earth (ok I may be exaggerating a little but you get the idea).

As I continue to take pole classes, my upper body gets stronger. This allows me to start practicing handstands by kicking up against the wall without the fear of collapsing. At first I rely on the wall to hold my weight and as the time goes on, I am able to take my back and legs off for about a fraction of a second before coming back down.
