Cycling across the Golden Gate Bridge offers stunning views of San Francisco Bay and Alcatraz while giving you an iconic California experience. The 1.7-mile span can be windy and crowded with tourists, so start early for the best photos and smoothest ride. The feeling of pedaling above the Pacific with the city skyline behind you is pure magic.

โThe approach to the bridge took our breath away. We were getting so close and the true scale of the Golden Gate Bridge was really starting to sink in. When we reached the actual bridge approach after riding up a steep little switch back trail from the bike path below, things became a little bit more challenging due to the heavy sightseeing traffic which was to be expected. That said, still totally worth it! The walkway was divided in half โ half for pedestrians and half for cyclists. But the cyclists had to ride around one another, while at the same time avoiding pedestrians who also only really had enough room to walk shoulder to shoulder.โ
โOur final stop before crossing the bridge was at Fort Point, right under the giant orange suspension bridge. This was the first time all week that I was actually seeing the Golden Gate Bridge in its natural, fog-shrouded state, and it definitely had a certain majesty to it that wasn't present on previous sunny days. And then, at last, it was time to hit the bridge. Riding over the bridge on an electric bike is slightly tricky. Since there aren't any bike lanes on the Golden Gate Bridge, cyclists must share space with pedestrians. And since we were technically riding motorized vehicles [...] we had to keep our hands off those ever-so-tempting throttles as we made our way across, lest we draw the angry attention of Bridge police.โ
โAnyway we started on our journey. Josh riding up ahead, me following, clutching the handlebars for dear life, having a panic attack. Shouting at Josh to slow down from his already walking pace. [...] Riding across the actual bridge was weirdly difficult, just because of how windy it was. Even though the bridge was flat it required a lot of effort to pedal across.โ
