Master the delicate art of card tower construction, where patience meets precision. Start with simple triangles and work your way up to multi-story structures. The key is finding cards that aren't too slippery and building in a spot free from air currents—every breath becomes your enemy.

People who tried this

For a few weeks, I became quite obsessed with building card towers. It began as a competition between friends, with a few winning towers of two or three stories, and then sky-rocketed from there. Soon, every idle moment was spent building towers, accidentally knocking them down, swearing, and rebuilding. There was that ever present goal: nine stories high. I could never reach it, as my favourite deck, with the worn edges, would not stretch that far. The eight story tower was, and still is, my limit.

Setting that first flat card on top of the open-air 4-walled structure that so precariously stood on the table took great sensitivity and care. While most of the houses I tried to build fell flat when I clumsily tried to do this, if I was able to pull it off and then add a second and third card for strength, I ended up with a floor on which a second story could be attempted [...] I can’t recall ever constructing a house or tower of cards much beyond a third level. It was just too difficult for me to do and too taxing on my attention span to stay that focused for that long.
