Build something out of wood, like a birdhouse or shelf.

Start with a simple project like a basic shelf or bird feeder that requires only cutting, drilling, and screwing together pieces. Many hardware stores will cut wood to size for you, and the satisfaction of using something you built with your hands never gets old, even if it's slightly crooked.

โBuilding my first shelf was an extremely powerful experience for me. I still remember having a bunch of jars cluttering my space and feeling so aggravated at my lack of organization. Then I felt such delight in my ability when I finally did something about it. The result: jars perfectly fitting on shelves suited to each size. Clutter gone. Amazing. That was 15 years ago. At the time, I was building out of slab wood (the scraps left over from milling logs), making my cuts with a chainsaw and attaching everything together with a borrowed drill.โ
โSo I go out to Sears, buy a circular saw, nails, some ยพ plywood and 2 weeks later (yes 2 weeks of going out to the garage after work, literally not knowing anything about measuring or what I was doing) I built two boxes without a top. And I LOVED it!โ
