βI went for the first time and I was honestly impressed with how little I saw of people being dumb, sure there were a few over the line coming the other way, I didnβt see any accidents, really didnβt see anyone speeding because you couldnβt, never got asshole passed. I was seriously expecting more chaos from everything you read and hear. We stayed in rapid city and I was very impressed with the downtown. Very easy to park the bikes and walk to a few different choices of restaurants. Did my 2 hours of walking around Sturgis downtown and saw everything I needed to see. Didnβt see the buffalo chip but did go to Full Throttle Saloon and was blown away. Place is huge and absolutely loved the old manufacturing theme (I work in manufacturing and Iβm an absolute nerd for stuff like that) If work and home life allows it, Iβd love to make this a yearly trip, fell in love with the black hills.β
βIn fairness Iβve been to Sturgis before (1994 and 2010) but not during the Rally. This was my first Rally. Wow. Throttle crowd was not super full even for Wilson. We had a great time donβt get me wrong here, but I went in expecting a Mad Max level of fire and insanity and it was a bunch of boomers sitting on their hands. Sturgis itself was fine. About what I expected. A ton of older bikers and heavy police presence. I was promised hot girls selling beer cans for $30 each. We did all the hot spots. Deadwood was fun, Needles was great despite 10,000 weekend warriors cosplaying as bikers, hey, itβs expected, have fun and enjoy it, itβs all good. Went to the Chip in the daytime and it was 600 degrees but great. We did have a bad experience with the rally welcome packs. I called and talked to a very nice woman who told me to go to the visitors center in town. Went there three times and there were signs on the door saying βwe are at the eventβ. Uh, what event? Then was told to go to the Chip? So we did, and they seemed very confused at the booth and we didnβt get basically any of the stuff we pre-ordered. But we did get toothpaste? They should have been giving away leather conditioning lotion to help these boomers who all look like Stephen Pearcy. Everyone was nice as hell. We had a great time. But definitely not what I expected. Iβm a little worried that this thing is aging-out.β
