Even $5 to a cause you care about creates a sense of purpose and connection to something bigger. Apps like GiveDirectly or local food banks make micro-donations easy. The psychological benefits to the giver often exceed the donation amount.

βThe charity was the "Jerusalem Prayer Team", and the letters are by someone named Mike Evans. I donate to charities often and always do a good amount of research, however this time I saw a sensitive looking advertisement and didn't think twice about donating a couple dollars, yes ONLY a couple dollars, thought there can't be harm in just a couple dollars right? Wrong. I've been receiving letters multiple times a month and emails multiple times a week about supporting Israel and prompts to buy a book and to make more donations. I've blocked and unsubscribed from the emails, and double checked that i do not have an account on their website, but there is NO option on the letters for cancelling.β
βI figure if I can spend money on a Christmas present for someone, then I can give to charity that will benefit countless people. [...] I also decided to donate 10 dollars because i am certain my donation will go directly to the cause and will make a difference, even if it is really small. If everybody can donate a small amount, i think it will really helpβ
