“I lived in an American craftsman-style house with upstairs windows that gave onto the roof, which sloped gently up to the ridge cap, and I used to sit up there with a bottle and a pack of cigarettes and chill. It gave a nice view of the neighborhood, and noticed you up there, so you were sort of surreptitiously watching goings-on on the block—people just don't except to see people up that high so the just don't see you.”
