Collections can be anything that interests you - coins, books, vintage postcards, succulents, or unusual bottle caps. The key is consistency and passion for the subject. Start small and learn about what you're collecting - the history, rarity, and value make it much more meaningful than just accumulating items.

I’ve been collecting pretty continuously since then, and have built up a nice collection once again. But, again, it’s not something that I’ve been able to find balance in. I’ve been lacking in my relationship to my girlfriend, I’ve been distracted at work, I’ve been putting off talking to my friends and family; I’ve been obsessed. Constantly running around looking for new releases, always online looking for good deals on cards I need, organizing my collection, creating spreadsheets, selling things, participating in Facebook groups and forums. It’s become something that I no longer enjoy.

I’ve been collecting jewelry since I was maybe 10 or 11 years old, but more seriously for fifteen years now. I have a large collection of “sentimental” pieces, like my first ring I got off eBay, my mom’s first ring my dad gave her on a date they went on, my grandparents’ wedding bands from when they were married in Italy, my baptismal medal, a St. Anthony medal gifted to me by my dad before I left for college (which I wore every single day while I was away), and a few more. These pieces I could never part with and make up an important part of my collection.
