βOver 2 and a half hours into the concert and he didnβt have a single friendship bracelet. When he told me my total I handed him my card and asked, βHey, do you want a friendship bracelet?β Iβll never forget the look he gave me. It was like a kid on Christmas morning. The exhaustion fell from him, replaced with radiating delight. When he responded βYes!β I slid one of my early no-letter bracelets on his wrist. It would look totally normal on a teenage boy, even after the concert.β
βI went Minneapolis night 2 and there were a ton of people trading. I approached a few people and people were approaching me while I was waiting in lines to trade. I only made 10-15 bracelets to trade so I ran out within an hour or so. I am very shy but I did the bracelets to be brave and knowing that everyone at the show would be friendly and happy, it was a great experience. Trading with some kids was extra special to help them have the best night.β
βBut what I remember is the beauty of the offering; slipping something onto a friendβs hand and knowing it would always be with them, until it wasnβt. The experience was intoxicating; physical and concrete, like the serious business of exchanging wedding rings, it signified an unbreakable bond.β
