Start with two balls and master the basic throw pattern before adding the third - most people can get the basic juggle down in a few focused practice sessions. Use bean bags or soft balls to avoid chasing rolling objects, and practice over a bed to save your back from constant bending.

βAfter several sessions of chasing my juggling balls around the perimeter of my apartment bedroom and beating myself up for not being an instant juggling pro, things finally improved. Having my professor observe my progress via gallery view and unstable internet remains daunting, don't get me wrong. But when I finally allowed myself to take a cleansing breath one day and not micromanage the situation, I completed my first two juggling rotations with three balls. No issues, no stress - I intuitively knew what to do. My jaw dropped. How could I, the least coordinated human I know, suddenly learn how to juggle three items? And have fun doing it?β
βI did this practice starting in mid December of 2023 and finally reached over 60 seconds of continuous juggling at the end of January. At five minutes per day, roughly five days per week thatβs around 150 minutes, or 2-3 hours of juggling practice to make it to my goal. Not too much of a time invest after all. There were days where I felt like I moved three steps back and had to start from the beginning, and there were big breakthrough days as well, where suddenly everything worked out a lot better than anticipated.β
βI got into juggling in 3 phases. When I was in 8th grade, we had a circus themed field day. I tried teaching myself the 3 ball cascade using 3 baseballs the day before, but could only manage 4 catches at a time. Over my high school years, I would try it every now and then using baseballs and eventually got the cascade down.β
