As she started metal detecting in earnest, her first challenged soon emerged; being able to walk and swing the detector at the same time. It seemed to be one-or-the-other; swing or walk but not both. [...] Trying to localize a target was one of her biggest challenges, besides walking and swinging. I tried to explain to her that the loudest signal meant the target was in the middle of the coil and that as the coil moved off the target that the sound would decrease and stop once the coil was no longer over the target. [...] Holding the detector in one hand and using the scoop with the other hand was too much. [...] “My wrists and arms hurt”, she said looking at me with puppy eyes as she rested on a rented lounge chair. [...] “It was a lot harder then I thought it would be! How long do you do this?”, she asked.

I was out for the first time with my Axiom (or any metal detector). I spent some time reading, learning and testing at home before heading out. Unfortunately it was in a "high junk" area, although I tried to distance myself a bit. As I am learning, I am digging all targets just to be sure. I successfully collected a nail, a bottle cap, a shell and about a dozen other metal scraps! Not the haul I was looking for, but at least I know the machine is running fine, settings appear to be good, I just need to train my ears and find better ground.

My 4 y/o daughter and I decided a little while ago we were going to get a metal detector and hunt for treasures together (I have always wanted a metal detector and may have told her treasure and digging in the mud was involved.. she had no complaints haha)! [...] We procede to dig up these bits of old rusted iron shards. It is at this exact moment I realized I hadn't bought gloves and they are now on our list. Nothing like good ol' tetanus to spark your memory!
