Sculpting with clay
๐ Anywhere๐ Repeatable๐ค All ages
creativeartcrafts
Work with your hands to shape clay into functional pottery, artistic sculptures, or abstract forms that express your creativity. Start with simple pinch pots or coil techniques before advancing to wheel throwing if available. The meditative quality of working with clay helps reduce stress, and there's something deeply satisfying about creating something beautiful and potentially useful from a simple lump of earth.

People who tried this
โIโve never tried anything like this before, and it took a long time to do in little bits over many months. [...] Some of the constraints I had in doing it this way was that the clay hardened before I was done shaping it. I was also too timid at the beginning โa little weirded out by physically forming a faceโ and that made me too tentative.โ
โAt first we needed to make an anatomically correct sculpture of a skull. Besides few little sculptures that I made early in my childhood out of dirt that I dug up in the yard, I never tried to make any semi-professional sculptures out of clay. So the whole process was very new to me and so damn intriguing. Building my first sculpture, from an armature to completion deepened my appreciation for the process and the feel of this earthy material. [...] But building it in 3D, feeling every shape, ledges and grooves was a whole new experience.โ
