Jumping from 15,000 feet gives you nearly a minute of pure freefall before the parachute deploys. The initial terror transforms into an incredible rush as you plummet through clouds at 120mph. Most first-time jumpers are tandem with an instructor, making it surprisingly accessible for anyone seeking the ultimate adrenaline hit.

βI went with NZone Skydive, they were professional, friendly and totally chill, probably too chill considering I was internally screaming the entire briefing. Anyway, we got up in the plane 15,000 feet. The views were surreal. I could see the snow-capped Remarkables, Lake Wakatipu, and I swear even my anxiety had a moment of peace at least until the door opened. Instructor shouted something like -Ready?! but I couldnβt even answer before we jumped. What happens next is about 10 seconds into freefall, I blacked out. Not passed out fully, but like my brain took break*.* Instructor recorded a video of me just not being there while he does all the work. Then I randomly woke up with the loudest scream Iβve ever made in my life. It was apparently so loud it even startled my instructor, who later said -I thought you saw God or something. Once the parachute opened, everything slowed down. And I mean everything. The silence, the view, the stillness it was oddly emotional, I started tearing up. Not sure if it was gratitude or leftover breakup trauma finally leaving my body...β
βWhile both Timmy and I have both gone sky diving in the past, this experience was incomparable. We started with a 15-minute scenic flight over Lake Wakatipu and the famous snow capped mountains surrounding Glenorchy. It was so gorgeous that I barley felt nervous at all! Then came the fun. We opted for the highest jump of 15,000 feet, go big or go home right? After 65 seconds of free fall at maximum speeds of about 200 km/h (124 mph) we spent 5 minutes floating above breath-taking alpine scenery. Skydiving doesnβt get any better than this!β
βOf course my boss booked the maximum height as well of 15,000ft. I was feeling so sick the day of the event. I could barely eat, but when the time came to jump it was wild. I know Elton John's 'Crocodike Rock' is about some old school dance routine, but "When your feet just can't keep still/I never knew me a better time and I guess I never will" those lyrics are the best I can use to describe the experience. It was actually so magical and I felt so alive and free. I felt a lot lift off my shoulders.β
