βAfter driving through the mountainous regions of Austria, winding in and out of massive tunnels, we arrived in Lake Bled early in the afternoon. We were immediately awestruck by the lakeβs beauty, and even though it is a very well-known tourist area, the masses of people milling around it didnβt interfere with our amazement. [...] Next, we rented a small rowboat. Iβve been rowing a number of times and I was super impressed by the build of these small boats. At first we were a little intimidated by the size of the lake, wondering if our out-of-use rowing skills would make it difficult for us. We neednβt have worried. It was smooth going and a lot of fun.β
βThe hike is short but not easy; however, the aerial view of the entire Lake Bled landscape and surrounds is well worth the sweat. My group and I lingered up there for at least 30 minutes, taking photos, breathing in the crisp fresh air and just letting the inspiring scenery wash over us. Even the small island β which just an hour before I hated for stealing my money β made me smile to look at from above, the white church and historic tower adding to the idyllic emerald green lake.β
βInstead of ticking off the traditional sightseeing list β castle & church β we decided to take the 6 km path all the way around the lake in order to capture every beautiful vantage point. Thereβs nothing like spending a day with a total stranger, is there? Especially one you really find interesting. We chatted for hours, stopping for ice cream and occasional photographs. None of either of us, though, as the scenery really stole the show. After weeks of non-stop travel blogging hysteria and train travel, my day at Lake Bled was a slow, welcome day of reflection, conversation and fresh air.β
βthatβs not to say i didnβt find it an enjoyable experience, but iβm going to be real with you. for some reason i thought my time in bled was going to be some sort of life-changing travel experience. and what it was was hanging out around a nice lake. it wasnβt the most beautiful lake iβve ever seen, but it is a nice place to spend your time and bled is definitely worth a visit. a leisurely wander on the path around the lake is a wonderful activity, and you might wonder about the island in the middle. it looks so quaint and adorable! thereβs a church with 99 steps and a wishing bell! and there are rowboats and pletnas all over the place [...] driven by a single standing oarsmen, for β¬12 per head, heβll happily take you to the island for a half-hour stay.β
