Try the popular 52-week challenge where you save $1 the first week, $2 the second week, building up to $52 by year-end for a total of $1,378. Alternatively, do the reverse starting with $52 to front-load when motivation is high, or adapt the amounts to fit your budget.

βTwenty dollars a week doesnβt sound like much until you realize itβs almost $80 per month on top of everything else youβre trying to save,β she said. βI definitely had a few weeks where I transferred the money on Sunday and then had to transfer it back on Wednesday because I needed it for groceries,β Amelia shared. βThe challenge was supposed to teach me discipline, but I felt like I was just moving money around.β
βNovember and December were brutal,β she said. βI was saving more per week than I spend on groceries. It felt completely backwards.β βWeek 50 hit in mid-December and I had to save $50 while also buying Christmas presents,β she shared. βI definitely put some gifts on my credit card that I wouldnβt have otherwise. Oops!β
βYou must have pretty good self control in order to complete this savings challenge. I have attempted twice in a two year span and was not successful in completing it all the way the first time before I had to drain it. However, I am only two envelopes away from completing this savings challenge & it makes me so proud to accomplish this goal as I've worked very hard for it! The only way I was able to fill up my envelopes so fast the second time I tried was because I was doing all kinds of side jobs that paid cash or zelle with any free time I had. I was dog sitting, giving professional relaxing massages, and selling any item given to me that no one wanted. All while working my full time job to pay the bills.β
