I wasn’t trying to photograph a Common Lizard, I was chasing a butterfly, a White Admiral. [...] It was leading me a merry dance all around the bramble and then it did something beautiful…. It settled. There beside it, basking on a bramble leaf with an incredible lightness of being was a perfectly formed reptile. I have always thought of this as a gift, meaning a present that I was given and not meaning a talent.

I have spent this summer in different forests learning bird photography and appreciating the nature at the same time. Yesterday I walked about four hours and got maybe four good photos but man the smell after a rainy week is almost like a drug.

Yet, last weekend, when I went to the woods of Saint-Germain en Laye after so many months chasing for successful photographs, I felt relieved again. Though there was the bitter taste of loss when I wandered under the branches of the trees, I also suddenly remembered what I loved so much about photography : living in the present, seeing beauty where others see banality, making every moment unique, every place a palace of conscience, every leaf a masterpiece of nature.
