Bite into Berlin's most beloved street food - grilled bratwurst sliced and smothered in curry-spiced ketchup, invented by a resourceful vendor in 1949. This post-war fusion dish represents Berlin's resilient spirit and is best enjoyed from a street stand with a side of fries and a cold beer. Each vendor has their own secret curry powder blend.

People who tried this

β€œI am not a currywurst connoisseur. In fact, it was the first currywurst I have ever had. Where better to try currywurst than in Berlin. I was pretty surprised that the sausage was actually served with ketchup and some sprinkling of curry powder on top. I was expecting some sort of curry sauce, almost like chicken curry but with sausage. Although we did not try those from specialist currywurst shop, I still like our Currywurst Express experience as our first try.”

β€œOne of the first things I felt I needed to do when I got to Berlin was to try currywurst. Luckily the hostel I was staying in was just a couple of blocks down from the Berlin's oldest currywurst place Konnopke's Imbiss in Prenzlauer Berg. [...] I ate at Konnopke's, Curry7 in Kreuzberg, Curry36 also in Kreuzberg, and at Alexanderplatz from a "grillwalker". In my opinion Curry7 was the best, but it was after bar hopping at the many bars and patios in the area.”
