She's wheeling a big cart of white buckets, and I start to wonder what I've signed on for. [...] I laugh. Until it's time for me to lift my bucket from my tower. I deadlift 160 pounds and I can't get the bucket to budge. It's beyond embarrassing. [...] And, yet, we just invested the last two hours in building this all. I hate the thought of it coming crashing down. [...] I watch the slow erosion. I could tell you I had a moment of appreciating the fleeting nature of life, but really, I was just satisfied that the honors of destruction fell not to any terrorizing 8-year-old, but to the biggest wild leveler of all, Mother Nature.

Once we had a base to work from, the fun really began! We pushed and patted the sand into shape, used the bucket as a mold to create the castle spires, and our castle began to take shape. Gathering water in the bucket and mixing in sand allowed us to drizzle sand to create more texture and detail. We scoured the nearby area for small rocks, shell bits and pieces of kelp for detail. A small sand crab moved in (although his camouflage abilities made him impossible to catch in a photo).
