βfew weeks back we had blackout in my area and got so restless just sitting at home, decided to walk over to local library just for something to do got myself library card and borrowed couple books. managed to actually finish them both which rarely happens these days. went back again, picked up few more titles. now its become regular thing I do and surprisingly something I really enjoy used to drop quite a bit money in digital books and audiobooks, buying them without thinking and most times never completing them. had whole plan to create personal library at some point, even saved up around three hundred for proper bookshelves. now I just borrow everything and if book doesn't grab me after first chapter or two, no stress about money wasted. been reading much more since theres no financial pressure also something about walking through actual shelves beats browsing online suggestions by far. discovered books I would never have noticed otherwise. they also have dvds, audiobooks, even passes for local museums you can check outβ
βAs soon as we arrive and put our return pile in the book drop, I feel like weβre at our happy place. [...] Our branch is on the small side, but the childrenβs section takes up about a third of the building and there are plenty of tables as well as room to sprawl out on the floor. The windows look out on massive old trees in the park next door, which is a great spot for reading post-checkout. Lest you think itβs our happy place because my children suddenly become quiet, angelic library patrons β let me assure you thatβs not it. I frequently have to remind an exuberant Clark to whisper, or calm down a cantankerous Nate as he samples and discards the board books. But itβs happy because even though we might overdo the chicken nuggets, or I flip out when my twosome improvises some noisy, mess-making rambunctiousness when I just really need some peace, at the library I know weβre doing something good for them β without the cajoling that good-for-them things often require.β
βI remember the first time when I went to the library. I was walking with my son Mateo and he told me that he wanted go inside. I was very nervous because I didnβt speak English and Iβd never been in a library before in my life. Now I can say that going there was the best decision I could take. The people who work there were very friendly and some spoke Spanish. They gave me a lot of information about all the programs and resources they had. I continued going one or two times a week.β
