Walk towards the light in Jomblang Cave

“We walked from the giant mouth of the cave toward a dark passage at the rear, the light from our phone torches guiding the way. Before too long the cavern opened up again into a gigantic chamber, with a small, round hole at the very top. The time was just right for us to see the spectacular sunbeams pouring down from the roof onto a perfect natural podium. Water was trickling down through the hole, giving the light an ethereal shimmer, before flowing down to a sparkling river way below where we were standing. [...] As we entered this main chamber we were hit by the humidity, and within a matter of seconds we were drenched in sweat and our camera lenses fogged up.”

“Personally, I’d aim to be one of the first down as the sunlight streaming into the cave was at its best early on. From there, you’ll take a 200-meter walk through the dark cave, lit only by the head torches handed out earlier. The terrain is pretty muddy, especially the initial walk down into the cave, and there’s a small climb over some collapsed rocks, but nothing too challenging. [...] Rising from the cave to the sight of this was definitely unexpected, and while I’m not sure it would pass safety checks in the UK, everyone seemed to make it out just fine. If nothing else, it makes for a good, slightly bewildered laugh.”
