Whether it's a debutante ball, charity fundraiser, or Viennese waltz event, these formal dance gatherings offer a taste of old-world elegance. Many cities have seasonal balls open to the public, and some organizations offer dance lessons beforehand. Even if you can't waltz, the atmosphere, live orchestras, and elaborate venues make it a memorable experience.

βGoing to a ball is exciting, but can also be overwhelming and a bit intimidating when you think about having to do ballroom dances surrounded by effortlessly graceful Europeans. [...] They attempted to teach the quadrille, but, trust me, no amount of lessons can prepare you for the absolute chaos that happens on the dance floor at midnight. Even some of the Austrians seemed lost! [...] You will inevitably miscount, step on someoneβs toes, and run into an Austrian couple or two, but I promise it will be okay. Just keep spinning in circles and counting β1, 2, 3. 1, 2, 3β as inconspicuously as you can.β
βI am still in awe of the magical evening I had at the ball. I had high expectations from the number of Hallmark and Disney movies Iβve seen in my lifetime and I was still blown away by the entire experience. The venue was awe-inspiring, the musicians were excellent, and the night was nearly perfect (I say βnearlyβ because I thought my feet were going to fall off by the end of the night. Ladies, really think about which heels you wear).β
βWhen we arrived, I must admit the event did not seem as elaborate as I expected. But maybe I have watched a few too many episodes of Gossip Girl and was expecting far too much. With that said, immediately upon arrival there were cameras flashing at the guests arriving- so it was fun to walk through the doors and feel like you were someone special. After walking in, we scoped out the room to find silent auction items lined up along the left wall, a dance floor and DJ in the middle, and a photobooth and later hot dog stand (random) along the other side of the room and then of course, there were two bars in the back.β
