βWith three friends in tow, I ended up at the house of βAuntie Evelyn,β a woman whose rich life could be seen not only in her things, but in the family that filled her halls. Young children ate pizza downstairs and Evelynβs sister told stories from the living room couch. I learned of her career in medicine, her years spent traveling, and the lively parties she and her husband had thrown in their speakeasy-like basement. [...] It certainly makes sense when you consider the emotional nature of the whole affair, but for me, the sentimentality was the highlight.β
βFor the first time I tried going to an estate sale right at opening because it was a house full of old collectables from the 30s-80s. All the big money easy flip stuff was gone within the first 5 minutes, but I got a few pieces I had my eye on [...]. It was actually a little intimidating seeing some of the serious hustlers sweep the place and I was wondering if all/most estate sales are that intense?β
βMy first experience with an estate sale was nearly 20 years ago. John and I were most likely out on a Saturday looking for a restaurant off the beaten path or a festival of any kind. While I donβt remember exactly what we were up to, I do remember the neighborhood and all the cars parked up and down the narrow street. It was an eclectic mix of people walking to and from a certain house. Curiosity got the best of me so we parked in a tight spot by the curb and started walking. [...] This was the day I tasted the excitement of an estate sale.β
