โThe sound was like nothing Iโve ever heard. It was massive, yet smooth and soothing. It felt all-encompassing and gentle, yet peaceful and harmonious as sound waves moved all around and through me. This was the exquisite sound of 120 people singing โ without electronic amplification nor any other form of digital modification โ directly from their combined voice boxes to my ears. All in beautiful harmony in a near acoustically-perfect venue. The sensation was simultaneously overpowering yet profoundly comforting. Like perfection on earth. I was moved. So moved I felt tears running down my cheeks. I didnโt try to stop them. It felt good to let them go.โ
โThe Quay hummed with activity when we got there. People were everywhere, excited just like us to be in this famous spot. Street musicians performed, buskers. Indigenous people in native dress played the didgeridoo. It was all happening, like the Times Square of Australia. [...] Then, as the sun began to set, we returned to the Opera House, and looked out over the water. The sky was darkening, stars started to appear, and a nearly full moon hung low over the bridge. The entire scene was just magical. We then walked into the Sydney Opera House, found our seats, and settled in. We were pleasantly surprised when the men and women of Sydney Symphony Chorus entered. They took their places on the risers behind the musicians. They were so close we could nearly touch them.โ
โThe atmosphere in the area was electric and it felt so surreal that we were actually here- especially for me as I never believed I could actually fly all the way to the other side of the world as Iโm so terrified of planes. The Opera House was a lot smaller than I had imagined and is strangely separated into individual buildings- which I would never have guessed from pictures alone! Regardless of this- the sea in the harbour, with the bridge above and the Opera House right in front of us, set to the backdrop of millions of lights from the cosmopolitan Central Business District was absolutely breathtaking.โ
