People who tried this

โ€œwhen i was 22 i backpacked a month through europe by myself and it was one of the best experiences of my life. i had a flight into london and a flight out a month later and had no plans in between. i would pick a city that i wanted to visit and make friends while i was there. my next stop was determined by recommendations from people i met or whims. i even linked up with a group i met and traveled to the next city with them. the whole experience was wildly freeing and a confidence booster. i met so many people from all around the world that i wouldโ€™ve never connected with otherwise.โ€

โ€œFor context, I used to be a chronic over-packer (ie. a full suitcase and 1 weekโ€™s worth of underwear for a weekend trip) but this sub helped me throw all of that out the window and I finally lived out of a single 40L backpack (of which I only used about 30 - 35L) for a full month. Iโ€™m really proud of myself and Iโ€™m never going back! [...] At the beginning of the trip, even though I was heavier, I would feel tired carrying the backpack after 15 minutes. By the end of the trip, despite losing 10 lb, I barely noticed the weight on my back.โ€

โ€œMy wife and I spent a month going around some major cities in Europe (London, Paris, Madrid, Berlin, Rome, Naples) and we both just brought one bag each. [...] So how'd it go? Amazing!! I gotta say I don't think I can ever go back to more than one bag. The ease of travel was just amazing. I have to admit we even got a bit prideful, laughing when we saw people try to drag their huge rolling luggage down cobbled streets. And wow, leg room on a flight! Who knew??โ€
