βI was first called a βregularβ at a coffee shop in the spring months of 2024. [...] For the last eight months though, I am here everyday, ordering the exact same god-awful coffee until I acquire a taste for it, doing the exact same thing β smoking and reading. I love being called a regular. The barista knows how much ice to leave in my cup and the server remembers my penchant for using extra paper napkins (prevents episodes of over stimulation). I had built an identity in a place that I liked being a stranger at.β
βMy partner and I go to the same little breakfast spot every Saturday morning. We know the whole staff and they all know us; enough that when we get sat, they don't even have to ask us what we want to drink. They see us in their section and automatically bring us a coffee (for him) and a strawberry milkshake (for me). They know our names because we've all talked, but they still call us Coffee & Milkshake. It's such a good feeling, being a regular and having that kind of relationship with the staff to the point where they all know you β€οΈ one of the more simple pleasures in life β€οΈβ
