“On Monday night, I biked out to deep playa by myself, probably the last Monday-in-deep-playa that was mostly empty of people. I sat on an art project looking back on the city, smoking a joint as a dust storm swallowed up all the lights. Out there, in the silent darkness, I had a eureka moment. How for the past five years, I'd been living my life in a place of fear. But here I was, in an impossible place, with impossible people. Fuck you, fear.”

“I wanted to see one more sunrise so I hopped on my bike and headed towards the furthest fence (known as the trash fence). [...] It ended up being a live trap set, and I LOST myself in this music more so than any previous dancing experience that week (I was also wearing a full tiger suit with my new light up shoes). About 5:30am, I made my way towards the trash fence and meditated until the sun began peeking out from behind the mountains. I felt worn, tired, and beaten but also whole in a way I haven’t felt.”

“To say, “I saw Embrace at Burning Man,” does not capture the fact that I meditated at the top of Embrace with 25 people while someone played the tabla, or exchanged a loving glance with the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen while we both watched Embrace’s heart beat, or watched Embrace burn up in flames from the trash fence in deep playa while the blood orange sun rose over the desert, and the hot embers fell through the sky and landed on my toes.”
