“The daily routine was simple: start after breakfast, walk until lunch, eat and rest in the shade for a few hours, walk a bit more, set up camp, eat, and sleep. The long midday break felt strange at first, but we quickly got into the rhythm. As experienced long-distance hikers, walking 15–20 km per day initially felt slow, but trust me - it’s plenty. The Sahara is unforgiving.”
“The landscape was surprisingly varied. The first three days took us through sand dunes with limited vegetation - absolutely stunning, especially if you’ve never been to a sandy desert. After that, the terrain became firmer, and vegetation appeared intermittently. Still beautiful, and seeing unexpected biodiversity, including desert flowers, was a highlight. After a few more sandy days, we reached the outer rim of the Richat Structure - the Eye of the Sahara.”
“Okay the actual Desert was quite fabulous. The dunes were beautiful. [...] We saw the sunset on the camel and listened to a bit of berber music. The next morning we woke up to see the sunrise, had breakfeast and left for Fez.”
