I always enjoyed hanging out in the kitchen with my mum when I was little, helping her out where I could. I wanted to be a good cook basically since as early as I can remember and she took the time to teach me. Once I got older she let me pick one meal a week to cook, I’d pick out the recipe, go shopping with her and then cook it (with her help).

Growing up my brother and I were always expected to pick a meal and help make it a couple times a month. The goal was once a week but that wasn’t the case too often. We’ve started doing this same thing with our 8 year old daughter and she has started to love it. I even bought some nice beginner stainless steel knives for her. She’s can pick pretty much anything she wants to try and we help her as much as she needs.
