When I first saw a new York Times style crossword, while being good in crosswords in my language, I was totally lost. I didn't even understand most of the prompts and not because my English was an issue, but because the logic and phrasing totally didn't match anything i was used to. Even when I saw the answers I didn't get it. Now I'd say I'm pretty good. Some of it is really just getting accustomed to the logic of the prompts and learning the mentality. Then some things you also just figure out when you play with it. What seemed bizarre just becomes another pattern.

This was my first experience with this genre of puzzle and I for the life of me could not figure it out and I felt really defeated when I turned in a partially completed assignment that was supposed to be fun/easy.
