“Due to it being Friday and us arriving as early as we did, our group was able to easily get into the Hofbrau tent without much wait time. Waiting outside the tent is where the anticipation built up. The butterflies I felt were only comparable to when I was athletic and would be waiting for a swim meet to begin. Waiting outside the tent means you’re literally surrounded by hundreds of people chanting for the doors to open in different languages! [...] We began our first round of Oktoberfest by cheering and yelling prost! Vendors are constantly roaming from table to table selling food to satisfy hungry Oktoberfest goers. Throughout the day people would stand up on the tables and chug a full stein. Imagine a group of thousands all looking at one person and cheering them on (or booing them if they couldn’t finish drinking)! It was such an insane atmosphere that I can’t describe. You can barely hear yourself as you talk to the people around you!”
“We failed. We were wet, cold, hadn't eaten, no beer, prime time weekend,no reservations, no idea how to get in. We figured every tent was crazy so let's stay here. If all else fails, hit the Hofstrau tent? Well, we said, "let's just enjoy the moment". Who cares about being soaking wet and cold, no umbrella, being at beer fest without beer, stuck with a bunch of people all outside clamoring to get in but knowing "not a chance." [...] He turns and proceeds up the stairs to the balcony! He keeps motioning us to follow and suddenly we are in the best tent, at a comfortable table, with a waiter and beer being brought to us, in an exclusive place surrounded by Munich natives.”
“Absolutely. I went on Tuesday at 4pm, by myself - first time at Oktoberfest after living in Munich for a year. Although I am a bloke. Had an absolute blast, met lots of folk from all over the world, everyone super friendly. It was better than I thought it would be and ended up in a tent until it closed. However, seeing the crowd online yesterday that did look like hell on Earth.”
