Get soaked on the Maid of the Mist

“Despite this, the feeling of being there, at the feet of the waterfall, and experiencing the power of the water was indescribable. An immense joy took over me, and I could not help but smile, squeak, and laugh out loud like a child playing in the water. My face, hands, and anything not covered by the poncho, including my phone, got soaked, but I didn’t care much. I kept taking photos for as long as I could, even though I couldn't see anything through the mist. After a few minutes, I stopped taking photos, stashed my phone away to protect it from the water, and just stood there in awe of the incredible sight in front of me. Completely amazed, I admired the power of the water raging down, trying to imprint it all in my memory, while feeling the adrenaline rush through my veins. Those moments were the best kind of madness one can feel: it was loud, it was fast, it was EXHILARATING.”

“My husband insisted we all ride in the very front of the boat on the top deck so we had no way to shield ourselves from the water or the wind. As we approached Horseshoe falls the wind and "rain" really picked up. [...] It was not easy to communicate with one another over the roar of the water. At this point it was starting to feel like a heavy rainstorm under the falls and I tucked the camera under my poncho to protect it.”

“The air is filled with the roar of the falls and sea birds dip and weave through the mist, unfazed by the whirlpools and the pounding water. The water is full of fish – mostly salmon, according to our captain, and you can actually see them leaping out of the water. The falls become more and more magnificent the closer you get to them. [...] The closer you get to the falls, the wetter it gets and you will be really glad you have on that slicker. [...] The cruise actually doesn’t take very long but it’s truly incredible to see the falls that close. You just can’t appreciate their magnificence from looking at them from up on the rim.”
