βThe boys and I took our morning walk on the north side of the lake. The shallow lake is glassy calm. The smell in the air was of pine and fir, and the sounds of birds singing their morning songs. In the beginning the trail was an easy walk, and was lined with blueberry bushes on each side. I would nibble occasionally on the sweet berries. When the boys had the opportunity, they would head for the water, running through marshy grasses that lined most of the lake, and covering themselves in mud.β
βIt was their first time on Rattlesnake and I was a little worried it may be a bit too steep to start, but they did great,β Erin said. βAnd even better, they had a great time! My son actually has a disability called Spina Bifida, so when he is able to do things like this it's a really big deal. I have taken him on an easy hike at Mount Rainier before, but this was his first one with any real elevation gain.β
