Go on a horse-drawn sleigh ride
π Anywhereπ Repeatableπ€ All ages
romanticfamily
Glide silently through snow-covered landscapes bundled under thick blankets while horses' hooves create a rhythmic soundtrack and their breath creates puffs of steam in the cold air. Many operations provide hot cocoa or mulled wine to keep you warm during the ride. Mountain resorts and rural farms offer the most scenic routes, especially beautiful during snowfall or under starlit skies.

βWhen we arrived we checked in for our excursion under the cover of a cozy canvas tent, complete with twinkle lights, lanterns hanging from the ceiling, a stove fireplace and the friendliest staff ready to greet us with a warm cup of cocoa and that peppermint schnapps I previously mentioned. [...] After a quick photo opportunity with the towering horses (and I mean, they are truly gentle GIANTS), we were swept off through the forest at dusk, and watched the remaining alpenglow slowly fade to darkness.β
βShortly after check-in, four Clydesdale horses named Smith & Wesson and Atlas & Apollo trotted up with that ever so recognizable clip-clop, clip-clop. Then, two darker horses, Salt & Pepper arrived, a Belgian duo ready to carry us away in our sleigh chariot.β
βA few years ago we took the horse-drawn sleigh ride onto the 25,000-acre National Elk Refuge near Jackson, WY. It was the economy trip, $12 each if I remember correctly. It was fun. These rides run from December to March or April, depending on the snow and when the elk start going back into the higher elevations. The ride goes through right the elk. They donβt pay much attention to the wagon and its load.β
