People who tried this

The site turned out to be Bortle 0 (if there is such a thing—severe clear, expansive 360° horizon, zero light domes…Bortle would agree with me if he saw it!), and I was awestruck at the brightness and structure of the Milky Way across the ocean of unpolluted sky. My knees wobbled at the sight of the core at zenith, and I was overtaken by waves of vertigo-inducing awe and disbelief.

I stopped, got out and laid on one until my eyes adjusted to the dark. I began to see satellites zooming overhead, and then the entire Milky Way. Laying there, I started seeing the sky in 3D, with stars at varying distances from us, and began to wonder what it would be like to fly through them at ludicrous speed. It was a special night.
