Have an après ski

socialfood-and-drink

Unwind after a day on the slopes with the traditional alpine ritual of après-ski. Join fellow skiers and snowboarders at slope-side bars or mountain lodges for drinks, live music, and hearty comfort food. It's as much about the social atmosphere and mountain culture as the beverages – think mulled wine, schnapps, and stories from the day's adventures.

Every time someone recommends a place I go to it's absolutely horrible. It's loud and it's obnoxious and it's mediocre drinks and it's not fun at all. I was at Folie Douce in Meribel in January. It was entertaining for about 10 minutes after which it was just uncomfortable. Every other bar that was recommended was horribly crowded with no space at all and obnoxious behavior and overpriced drinks that were just basically tropicana with some liquor thrown in. No effort in making the drinks at all. Which at a certain price point is just outrageous. My best "Apres" experience was finding a gorgeous cocktail bar inside a hotel base of Meribel (Hotel La Chaudanne) that had a beautiful ambiance and these amazing creation of cocktails and snacks.

Went there for the first time last week and accidentally ran into the place trying to get back to Val d’Isère. I could feel the base vibrating my chest like a quarter mile away before I even came over the ridge line & saw it. Place is crazy.

I hate the après-ski, a lot. First of all, you are still in your ski clothes, and especially in you have been skiing all day you are likely wet, and cold. I don't know about snow board boots, but sky boots are SO uncomfortable when you are not on your skis. Plus, after skiing all day I am usually tired, and not in the mood to get drunk. And everyone is drunk as shit and the atmosphere is grotesque.
