โI set out a goal to improve my core strength and to gradually get to holding a 10 minute plank. On August 21, I created a plank challenge using Green Day songs. [...] I thought that it would take me 2 months to hold a 10 minute plank, but I was able to do it in a little over a month (1 plank daily, resting on Sunday, except today lol) In the beginning my heart rate was really high. Eventually, I was able to calm my mind and body. Once I was able to do that, I knew getting to 10 minutes was a matter of mostly mind over matter. I am extremely proud of my process to date and my increased core and body strength.โ
โDuring his workshop, he spoke about mental fitness and suddenly there was a group of us, over Zoom, busting out plank pose in our homes and offices. I was in jeans and a sweater because I had dinner plans and didn't want to miss his workshop so I got ready before - fresh hair, makeup and all. 11 minutes in - we were still going and I had to leave for my dinner plans but the group continued for a total of 20 minutes! Wow. I was hooked. [...] The first few minutes is always this "fight" in my head and there's this intense feeling to just STOP. Interestingly, the longer I hold the plank, the "easier" it gets (in my head) because I start to feel my body take over my mind and the work become more effective. Each week is a different experience. Some days I cry.โ
