β€œManage your expectations and keep it simple. Don't overdo it with food and prep. If you want a game night then put the focus on the game, otherwise you will spend the first two hours chatting and eating and people will be looking at the time before you get to the teach. Know in advance if they expect dinner or just snacks. If possible have a seperate food area. For example we have a kitchen island where snacks are kept AWAY from the game table. We take frequent breaks for a snacking and bathroom use etc. Chose the game and know the rules! Assuming you are talking about a game night with a small group who don't play a ton of games I would pick a light to middleweight game in advance and reread the rules even if you are familiar with the game, especially if you will also be teaching a new game to the group. Choice sounds like a great idea, but you will be shocked by how paralyzing even putting three games out to pick from can be for people.”

β€œWe host a weekly board game night and honestly the single most important aspect behind its continued success is finding the right people to invite along. Similar personalities and interests, similar approaches to gaming, similar experience levels and rates of learning. And be open to what they do and don’t want to play. In my case we’re restricted to my collection, so anything they pick I’m happy with, but there’s a couple of other groups I’m part of that I don’t tend to attend often because they always want to play games I have no interest in for one reason or another.”
