On top of that, I felt immensely under prepared on my first day as a “professional” engineer. I didn’t know how to decipher business requirements into technical terms, and I had no idea what was considered “good coding practice” versus the bad. My code reviews were riddled with comments from team members, and when asked a question, my only answer was “I was doing what the ticket told me to do,” which wasn’t helpful for anyone. I was learning how to live on my own, learning corporate etiquette and how to be a reliable developer so I can contribute to the team. I was immensely overwhelmed by the different responsibilities, and I ended up having a mental breakdown.
