Learning a simple card trick like the "four aces" or "pick a card" gives you an instant conversation starter and confidence booster. Practice the hand movements until they're smooth, then focus on your presentation and patter. The real magic happens in your audience's reaction when they can't figure out how you did it.

โ€œJust want to reflect on my first performance. So I just finished the first level of my magic classes. I did my first performance of one trick. I had a brain fart, in 5 seconds forgot what card I was looking for and it didn't go right, but I continued on with the same thing, and dropped 75% of the deck... but recovered again and finished the trick the way it was supposed to go. I guess this was mainly nerves I saw a packed house and the other top their magicians who were there.โ€

โ€œSo I am a beginner to card magic, and I performed Chicago Opener for my mom the other day (fairly simple trick, no extremely difficult slights or anything) and after I performed it she goes "wow that was amazing... what do you have a hidden card on the bottom or something?" I mean, I didn't flash or anything but when I first saw the trick I was blown away and had no clue of how it was done but it seemed like as a layperson she immediately almost had an idea of what was going on. The same thing with my sister, she almost guessed how the Invisible deck trick was done when I did it for her.โ€

โ€œToday I showed my invisible deck trick the first time (I'm new to magic) and while I practiced at home everything was perfect and the first try was perfect, then he wanted to see it again so I turned around and said that I would turn over another card, he told me his new card and not only could you see that there were cards between because I didn't apply enough pressure, I also was to dumb to subtract his number from 13 and did it to 15, so I gave him, with the most confidence I could bring up, the wrong card (and because I was so nervous about the cards in between it was also the wrong suit, fml)โ€
