βIβm a kickboxer. Therefore, I wasnβt too nervous when my coach invited me to my first boxing sparring session. Sure, an unfamiliar environment, unknown opponent, new coaches, and dodgy bike to travel with was scary, but the actual sparringβ I wouldnβt have said boxing fazed me. How little did I know? I stepped out of that ring after an exhausting 6 minutes, rightly humbled by a much younger opponent, and with a new-found appreciation for boxing.β
βBut because of my stubbornness, I refused to give up this part of my plan and kept doing this throughout the spar. I spend, what I felt like was over half of my energy just encircling him. After jabbing him and chasing him around (I should have cut off the ring instead of chasing him, this was stupid of me) I discovered that his primary defensive stance is the Philly Shell.β
βI was so tensed that when he walked towards me, I thought the fight was on, so I jabbed first. I forgot about the touch gloves courtesy! (Oof, embarrassing) Anyway, after that hiccup, we touched gloves, then my first spar that only consist of 2 rounds finally started.β
