โI went into the kitchen very quietly. I made sure not to make a sound. I remember opening up the fridge and getting out, bacon, eggs, butter and the orange juice. Yes. I was going to make my mom, a good old southern, bacon and eggs breakfast. I put on a cup of coffee, aka, hot water and Folgers, put the cast iron skillet on the stove and added the bacon. It smelled so good, but it was making too much noise, so I closed the kitchen door. [...] It was almost done. I had my sister run into the dining room and get a pretty tray from our china cabinet. We got a rose from my Dadโs rose garden and put it in a nice vase. I was so proud of that breakfast. The toast was a little burnt and the the bacon on the crispier side, but my eggs were awesome. We carried the tray to her bed and the best thing about that day that I remember, is my momโs face when she say we had made her breakfast in bed.โ
โSo for his 33rd birthday, I decided to let him sleep in and prepare breakfast in bed (giving me more time to run around the house to prep for his party). Made his favourite half boiled eggs; using the egg timer that came with the kit. [...] I made his morning coffee, laid the cutlery, lined up an assortment of jams then plated everything into my new Noritake set, on a tray. [...] Tiptoed gingerly into the bedroom towards Aiden's bed, and whispered in the boy's ears. It took a couple of minutes for me to finally convince him to wake up to help me with the surprise. [...] Because of all the drama of coaxing Aiden to wake up, the eggs sat too long in their egg holders and the beautiful soft boiled eggs became nearly hard boiled eggs!โ
โI promptly fell the rest of the way out of bed and shambled my way into the kitchen to make something breakfast like happen. It then occurred to me I have no idea what she wants for breakfast. So I medicated and tracked down some caffeine and then popped my head back in and confirmed she wasn't going to make me scramble for a youtube cookalong. "Eggs and sausage please." So I threw some sausage on the pan, belatedly remembered the non-stick spray, and got to cooking. [...] I then plated everything up and delivered it with some orange juice. [...] The look of dawning shock and horror must've been pretty funny on my face, because she doubles over in laughter again. And then stops suddenly. Just freezes in place. Her eyes get big and she starts flailing around in the covers, practically falling out of bed and sprinting to the bathroom, injury be damned.โ
