Start with easy-to-grow plants like herbs, lettuce, or cherry tomatoes in a small plot or containers. Research your planting zone and timing, prepare the soil properly, and commit to daily watering and care. There's something magical about eating food you've grown yourself, and even a small garden teaches you about patience, seasons, and where food really comes from.

People who tried this
βI had kept a few herbs on the windowsill in our apartment in Boston. There were exactly two small window sills that received any southern light, limiting how much I could grow. I tried, and failed, to grow vegetables (including tomatoes) in containers on the porchβjust not enough sun! And, while the windowsill basil grew decently and provided a nice fresh touch to our pizzas and pastas, what I really wanted were tomatoes. So, when we bought a house in Idaho with a yard, I planned a garden.β
