Watch the world's most famous sunset from clifftop villages of blue-domed churches and white-washed buildings perched on volcanic cliffs. The caldera views are spectacular, but don't miss exploring the black sand beaches, ancient ruins of Akrotiri, and local wineries that grow grapes in volcanic soil. Visit in shoulder season to avoid crowds while still enjoying perfect weather.

β€œWithout a doubt, sunset viewing is the number one tourist attraction of the island. We grabbed an early dinner, filled a thermos with wine and headed over to the ruins of the Castle of Agios Nikolaos. The edge of the ruins looks over the white washed city, giving you a perfect backdrop for the sun to set over the ocean. We camped out and found a spot 2.5 hours before sunset and slowly watched as the castle platform and surrounding streets filled with people for the main attraction. Thankfully the people watching was aplenty and the view was stunning, so the time went by pretty quick. When the sun finally disappeared over the horizon the crowd applauded.”

β€œOur second day on Santorini we decided to be ambitious and hike from Oia to Fira. The hike is 6.5 miles and has elevation gains in both directions. I would definitely suggest doing this hike either in the morning or later in the afternoon when the sun isn’t quite so severe. We got nice & sweaty trekking the cobblestones, dirt, and paved paths. It’s all worth it though, because along the way you will have amazing views of the Caldera, small churches, and the beautiful blue water below.”

β€œThe food at our hotel was incredible. We at breakfast by the pool every morning and sometimes lunch and afternoon snacks. We also had dinner there one night, a tasting menu that was absolutely insane. To this day, I don’t think I’ve ever had better tomatoes, cucumbers or green peppers {and I don’t even like green peppers because they usually taste flavorless}, sweeter honey, creamier Greek yogurt {the Greek yogurt available in the states was forever ruined after this trip} and better Greek salads.”
