βAfter seeing a whole lot of ancient pyramids and ruins in Mexico, I was half expecting to be underwhelmed at the sight of El Castillo. It was exactly the opposite β it really is an amazing building and probably the most impressive single structure Iβve seen in Mexico. Sure, other sights might be more atmospheric and have better settings, but youβd really have to be trying (or be Karl Pilkington) not to be impressed by it.β
βAt Chichen Itza, you cannot get anywhere near any of the ruins, you can't climb, touch, or sit on anything because it's roped off. I personally started getting very annoyed by the pushy salespeople, hounding me for a sale and it really detracted from the special sense of sacred antiquity that we felt the day before at the other sites.β
