βThe moment I stepped off the plane and cleared immigration, a warm, humid tropical breeze wrapped around me, carrying the sounds of birds from the nearby woods. My hotel shuttle driver was waiting with a smile, ready to whisk me toward the coast. What struck me immediately was how this place blends effortless beach vibes with deeper layers. Yes, the powdery white sands and Caribbean Sea steal the spotlight, but just a short ride away you can step into the fascinating world of ancient Mayan history and culture.β
βWe then went to 2 cenotes in the area. Not the one at the site, but nearby. I chose basically by pictures of stalactites, and was very happy with my choices- Palomitas and XCANAHALTUN. Both very lovely: Palomitas was warmer and I liked the stalagmites in XCANAHALTUN. For an archaeology and geology nerd like me, it was heaven.β
