See Van Gogh's Starry Night in person

“One does not usually see the frame in reproductions of the The Starry Night. This may sound crazy, but it was seeing the frame that made me realize the painting is, in fact, a real object, not merely a meme floating through popular culture. In my mind I always knew it was real, but seeing it in person made it feel real in a deeper way. When I saw it “live,” the painting was smaller than I thought it would be.”

“We were some of the first ones in the door and he hurried me up the stairs as he had a route he wanted us to take. We turned the corner and there we stood as the only two people in front of Starry Night. I was blown away by the painting and stood there for about five minutes taking it in. When we walked past it again, thirty minutes later, it was crowded like the photo. Getting to see it alone will forever be a precious memory for me.”
