Marvel at the world's finest collection of Spanish art, including Velázquez's Las Meninas, Goya's dark paintings, and masterpieces by El Greco and Murillo. The museum's layout allows you to trace the evolution of Spanish painting through centuries. Don't miss Goya's Black Paintings room - these haunting works painted directly on his house walls represent some of art history's most psychologically intense creations.

Imagine a visually impaired person trying to find the guard, who looks like any other visitor to me, in every gallery; then explain why and how I need his/her help (in Spanish; most guards I met did not speak English.) Nevertheless, in many cases it worked out and was a good experience, but in the end it was exhausting. [...] Walking through the many galleries was amazing, as was recognizing so many world famous art works. On the other hand, for me as a VIP visiting the Prado on my own, it was exhausting to get the information I wanted. It took me a long time to see even a small section of the museum.

When I first moved to the East Coast six years ago, I remember seeing famous landmarks such as the Lincoln Memorial and Times Square for the first time and the amazing feeling of being able to tangibly experience things I had only seen through photographs and TV screens. It might just be the huge history nerd in me, but there’s something almost magical about those experiences; they might just be objects or buildings, but their historical legacy connects you to the people around you and those who came before you. More than anything else here in Spain, the art at the Prado that I’ve come to love and appreciate gave me that same feeling.
