See where Romeo met Juliet in Verona

📍 Verona, Italy🔄 Repeatable👤 All ages

Stand beneath the famous balcony where Shakespeare's star-crossed lovers supposedly declared their devotion, though the romance is entirely fictional and the balcony was added for tourists. The real magic is in Verona itself—a perfectly preserved medieval city with stunning Roman architecture, charming piazzas, and an ancient arena that still hosts operas. Leave a love note on Juliet's wall, but stay for the authentic Italian atmosphere.

You will not want to fight the crowds while trying to crop small children groping the statue of Juliet out of your photos. Deny the urge to go there first. You can come back later in the day after the groups have gone and enjoy the solitude. Trust me, I made this mistake and ended up wasting a lot of time in the morning.

Romeo and Juliet are the stars of Verona and seeing the famous balcony at Juliet’s home was on my list of things to do. The rain finally stopped, and the sun was beginning to shine as I walked through Piazza Bra and passed the Verona Arena. [...] I knew that visiting the balcony of Juliet was free, but I mistakenly asked about the home of Juliet and was told I needed to purchase a ticket. Because it was a bank holiday, the ticket office wouldn’t be open until 2pm. So, I headed to the other sights on my list.
