Sit on the edge of a flat-topped cliff that drops 604 meters straight down to the Lysefjord below, with nothing but air between you and the dramatic Norwegian landscape. The hike to Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) is moderate but the final destination tests your nerves as you inch toward the precipice. The views over the fjord are spectacular, but the real thrill is conquering your fear of heights on this iconic cliff edge.

βWhen we reached our destination, the boys let out wild whoops that could have been heard from miles away, while the rest of us sat on the edge to take it all in. We were surrounded by nothing; all we saw was blank white. It was strange knowing that had it been warm and sunny, we would have been greeted by a beautiful view of Norway's fjords from above. But I could never trade this experience for that perfect view I had imagined. Being atop Preikestolen in the fog was like being at the edge of the world, completely separated from everything and everyone else on earth. We knew that if we took one more step, we would fall to our deaths, but it was difficult to imagine when all you could see was nothingness.β
βThe only way I could approach that edge myself was on my belly, slowly tigering my way forward until the bridge of my nose rested on it and I could see the terrifying 1,900-foot gorge plummet below me.β
