Walk across a transparent glass bridge suspended 4,700 feet above a dramatic canyon while mountains tower around you in every direction. The 430-foot-long skywalk tests your nerves as you can see straight down through the glass, but the 360-degree views of Zhangjiajie's otherworldly landscape are absolutely breathtaking.

I was reluctant to step on the glass panels at first, preferring the parts directly above the metal frames that supported them, but I eventually got over it and just glided along. Lucky for us, we were the only tourists at the time. We took our sweet time walking, taking pictures, and scaring ourselves.

Before we were allowed to walk on the glass walkway, we had to put red slippers on over our shoes. Unfortunately, I couldn't stretch the tiny slippers over my hiking boots. [...] Despite this airtight endorsement of the safety of the glass floor, I was still apprehensive about walking across this bridge without the protection of the cute red slippers. Against all odds, I managed and tip-toe across, thus avoiding an international incident.
